August Visa Bulletin Shows Limited Employment-Based Movement
USCIS will use the Final Action Dates chart for employment-based adjustment-of-status filings in August. China’s EB-1 advances by one month, while India’s EB-1 remains at October 15, 2022. India’s EB-2 and EB-5 unreserved categories remain unavailable, and EB-3 India stays at January 1, 2014. Family-based categories show stronger movement, especially F2A, which advances by about 18.5 months for most countries.
DHS Ends Duration of Status for F-1 Students
Beginning September 15, 2026, F-1 students will generally receive a fixed admission period tied to their Form I-20, capped at four years, instead of duration of status. Students needing more time for their program, a new degree, OPT or STEM OPT may need to file Form I-539 with USCIS. The rule also reduces the departure period from 60 days to 30 days and limits certain school, major and degree-level changes.

A study of more than 1,000 unicorn companies found that their founders were six times more likely to hold a doctorate, three times more likely to hold a master’s degree and twice as likely to hold an undergraduate degree than the average American adult. The findings suggest that expertise, research experience and university networks still play a major role in entrepreneurial success.
