Happy Wednesday. ✨
The rules are shifting faster than most people can keep up.
This week, we break down a major court decision that could restart thousands of stalled immigration cases, a USCIS policy change that may make in-country green card processing more difficult, and why colleges are warning applicants not to let AI write their essays. Plus, we look at new opportunities from Anthropic and what hiring data reveals about the backgrounds that top AI companies actually value.

🧑🎓 Admissions Corner
Fall 2027 Admissions Planning Begins for Prospective U.S. Students
Students targeting Fall 2027 admission to U.S. universities are being encouraged to begin preparations early, as application timelines typically start 12–18 months before enrollment. The fall intake, which begins in August or September, remains the most popular admission cycle due to its broad program availability, scholarship opportunities, and alignment with campus recruitment activities. Many universities set priority and regular application deadlines between November and January of the preceding year. Applicants are advised to plan ahead for standardized tests, academic documents, recommendation letters, and visa requirements. AI Reshapes College Admissions as Universities Emphasize Authenticity
A recent analysis highlights how artificial intelligence is transforming college admissions, with both applicants and universities increasingly incorporating AI into the process. While students are using AI tools to research, organize, and prepare applications, admissions experts caution against relying on AI-generated essays that can appear generic and lack personal authenticity. The report notes that some institutions are beginning to use AI for preliminary application reviews, including evaluating grammar and structure before human assessment. As AI use grows, colleges may place greater emphasis on the overall application rather than essays alone.

USCIS Ordered to Resume Processing Cases Previously Frozen Under Hold Policies
USCIS announced that a federal court has vacated three agency policies that had allowed certain immigration benefit applications to be placed on hold. As a result, those policies are no longer in effect, and USCIS must resume processing affected cases nationwide. The change impacts applications that may have been delayed, including green cards, work permits, asylum requests, naturalization applications, and other immigration benefits. Importantly, the decision does not grant automatic approvals; all cases will continue through normal adjudication procedures. The underlying travel restrictions remain unchanged, and USCIS says additional guidance will be issued as litigation continues.
USCIS Policy Shift Could Make In-Country Green Card Processing More Difficult
A new USCIS policy memo signals a major change in how adjustment of status applications are evaluated, treating in-country green card processing as a more discretionary and limited benefit. Under the guidance, applicants may increasingly be directed toward consular processing abroad unless they can demonstrate exceptional circumstances or a significant national or economic interest. The change could affect employment-based, family-based, and student visa holders who planned to obtain permanent residence without leaving the United States. Immigration advocates argue that the policy creates additional uncertainty, delays, and travel-related risks for eligible applicants.
EB-2 NIW Decoded: What the Instagram Reels Won't Tell You
NIW approval rates dropped from 95% in 2022 to 54% in 2025. More than half of petitions are failing. Not because people do not qualify. Because they built their case on advice that was never accurate to begin with.
Swatilina Barik, Founder of Visa Architect, is breaking down exactly what those reels are getting wrong and what actually gets NIW petitions approved in 2026. What USCIS really means by national interest, which profiles are winning right now and which are getting RFEs, the India backlog reality, and the exact mistakes she sees in denied petitions pulled from actual case files. 💫Career Resources
Anthropic Launches Paid ‘Claude Corps’ Fellowship for Early-Career Talent
Anthropic has introduced Claude Corps, a new 12-month paid fellowship program that places early-career professionals within U.S. nonprofits to build and implement AI-powered solutions. Designed as both a workforce development and AI-for-good initiative, the program provides hands-on experience working with Anthropic’s Claude AI tools while supporting mission-driven organizations. Fellows receive a full-time salary, benefits, structured training, and mentorship throughout the fellowship. The opportunity is open to individuals with two years or less of full-time work experience who are authorized to work in the United States, and no technical background is required.
What Anthropic’s Hiring Patterns Reveal About AI Engineering Careers A recent analysis of 1,680 Anthropic engineering profiles suggests that the company overwhelmingly hires experienced software builders rather than AI researchers. The median engineer reportedly joined with more than 12 years of prior experience, with backgrounds concentrated in infrastructure, backend systems, security, and large-scale distributed computing. Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Stripe, and Databricks emerged as major talent sources, while PhD holders represented only a small portion of the engineering workforce. The findings indicate that practical experience building and scaling production systems remains one of the strongest pathways into leading AI companies.
NUSRAT’S PIECE:
There is a question on the I-140 that asks whether you plan to file an adjustment of status or undergo consular processing if your petition is approved. Most people overlook it, but it carries more strategic weight now than ever before. I personally tend to recommend answering consular processing because it gives you flexibility. You can always file for adjustment of status later without any additional forms, but if you mark adjustment of status and change your mind, you have to file an extra form, which means more time and more expense. Now with this policy, there is an added layer to consider because how you answered that question may factor into how your application is evaluated. It is exactly the kind of small detail that seems insignificant but can have very real consequences, and it is why working closely with a good attorney on every single step matters more than ever right now.
